Airplane Ear Symptoms

Airplane ear symptoms are caused by symptoms of discomfort associated with your middle ear from a rapid changes in altitude and air pressure, also called Barotrauma. Airplane ear usually occurs when you have underlying symptoms of a cold, sinus infection or nasal allergy.


Airplane ear symptoms may include:

  • Moderate middle ear pain
  • Temporary or slight hearing loss
  • Feeling of fullness or stuffiness in your ear
  • Dizziness
  • Ringing in your ear

Sever symptoms of Airplane ear, Barotrauma may include:

  • Bleeding from your ear
  • Pressure feeling in your ear
  • Severe middle ear pain
  • Moderate to severe hearing loss

If your symptoms don't disappear within a few hours seek medical advice; especially if you develop new symptoms, such as fever, drainage from your ear, or severe ear pain.
