Avoidant Personality Disorder Symptoms
Individuals who suffer from avoidant personality disorder symptoms are
uncomfortable and they usually experience conflicting feelings and are unstable
in several aspects of life. Most of them will also believe that the problems are
because of others and never realize they suffer from a personality disorder.

- Hypersensitivity to rejection or criticism.

regarding what others think, and social inhibition.

- The patient will avoid all work that involves interpersonal contact due
to fear of disapproval, criticism, or rejection.
- The patient will avoid all jobs that require public appearances or
meeting strangers on a daily basis. Work that does not require any
interaction will be preferred.
- The patient will also be very hesitant to be involved with other people,
unless it is clear right from the very start that there will be no rejection
and that the company is wanted.
- The patient will have a difficult time maintaining personal and intimate
relationships due to fear of being ridiculed or shamed.
- There is no enjoyment in social situations, in fact there is a desperate
effort to avoid all social events because the patient is overly concerned
with being rejected or even criticized.
- There is a clear inability in new interpersonal situations because of
unjustified feelings of inadequacy in the patient and there will be trouble
making friends or getting along with strangers.
- Eventually there will be complete certainty in the patient of self
inadequacy, social ineptness, a lack of personal appeal, and a feeling of
inferiority to other individuals.
- There will also be reluctance to take part in new activities or try new
things because of fear of embarrassment.
