the throat the symptoms, usually starts just behind the mouth, but can still
affect other parts of this region. Unfortunately, all too often, the cancer in
the throat is too far gone by the time a doctor is made aware of the symptoms.
Symptoms of Throat Cancer
Those who have detected throat cancer in its early stages have come across
symptoms of oral cancer by analyzing changes that have taken place in the soft
tissues of the mouth. The appearance and feelings pertaining to this part of the
mouth also serves as a good indicator when a doctor should be contacted. You
should also know that throat cancer symptoms may directly strike the following
parts of the body:
- Mouth: When a sore in the mouth increases in size or does not heal,
there might be cause for concern. In the mouth, lumps or white, red or dark
patches will form.
- Pain: Throat cancer patients are often faced with a persistent pain in
the mouth.
- Cheeks: A thickening of the cheeks might take place.
- Tongue and Jaw: A throat cancer symptom also involves the natural
activities of the tongue. Chewing, swallowing, or moving this part of the
body may become difficult to complete. The jaw may react in the same way,
where movement seems difficult, and pain or swelling develops. The tongue
may also become numb.
- Teeth: Pain may form about the teeth with some becoming loose when
throat cancer symptoms are present.
- Voice: Some patients with symptoms of throat cancer have experienced
changes in their voice.
- Neck: A lump may develop in the neck as a throat cancer symptom.
Seeking medical help is recommended when signs of throat cancer become
visible. Since most oral cancers will appear on the lips and tongue, as well as
on the floor of the mouth, it is suggested to keep an eye out for these parts of
the body. The inside of the cheeks, gums, and the roof of the mouth may also
exhibit throat cancer symptoms.
